Description

Humphreys Peak (3,851 m) is the highest natural point in Arizona and part of the San Francisco Peaks — a sacred mountain range to the Navajo and Hopi peoples. The popular Humphreys Trail climbs through dense aspen and spruce forests before breaking above the treeline to a rocky alpine ridge on the volcanic shield. The round trip is challenging but non-technical, offering sweeping views of the Grand Canyon region.

Important Information

Humphreys Trail: 15 km round trip, 945 m gain. Trailhead at Arizona Snowbowl ski resort (2,760 m). No permit required. Sacred land — no off-trail travel above treeline. Ski lifts offer access in summer ($25) reducing the hike. Afternoon thunderstorms July–September (Arizona monsoon). Bring extra water — dry climate.
